State Housing Trust Fund restored
Funding for the State Housing Trust Fund appears safe – or the moment, at least – with $3 million appropriated for next year, pending Gov. Terry Branstad’s signature, and hopefully not a line-item veto.
The State Housing Trust Fund comprises a good share of the funding for organizations like the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund which met via teleconference Monday.
The fund has helped a number of Emmet County owner-occupants renovate their homes through essential repairs such as water heaters, furnaces, roofs and siding.
In other actions Monday, members agreed that a letter be sent to Cherokee County indicating that, while it will not be able to join the trust, the Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission, which administers the trust, would be willing to help Cherokee and other counties in its area establish a housing trust fund.
The board also agreed that a letter go to Hope Haven indicating that the trust fund will not be able to assist them with a project since assistance is limited to owner-occupants.
