No one was injured this afternoon when an SUV was struck by a train in Estherville. The Estherville Police Department says the accident happened around 12:15 p.m. at the rail crossing on North 2nd St.

Police say 22-year-old Emmanuel Miranda of Estherville was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe northbound in the 200 block of North 2nd St. and failed to obey a yield sign at the railroad crossing.

The SUV was struck on the rear driver’s side by an east bound Union Pacific freight train. Miranda was not injured in the accident.

Police say the SUV was totaled while damage to the train was minor.

Miranda was cited for failure to have a valid license and failure to obey a yield sign.
