Black Knights hold dance, plan events
The Black Knights Car Club of Estherville hosted a full house at a dance with
The Senders at the Elks Lodge Saturday night and also distributed information about upcoming cruises and other events this summer.
The club will host monthly cruise-ins the first Friday of every month from May through July from 6:30-10 p.m. at Library
Square in downtown Estherville. Cruise-in dates are Friday, May 2; Friday, June 6; Friday, July 4; and Friday, Aug. 1 in conjunction with Sweet Corn Days. There will be a short cruise each night around 7:30 p.m. with oldies music and family fun.
The club will hold its annual Sweet Corn Days car show Saturday, Aug. 2 but at a different venue. This year the show will be held from noon to 3 p.m. along North Eighth Street and First Avenue North. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the corner of Central Avenue and North Eighth Street.
Registration is $10 and dash plaques go to the first 100 entries and there will be door prizes for registrants. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. to the top 25 entries by participant vote. Special awards include Mayor’s Choice, Best Mopar, Best Ford, Best GM, Best Truck and Best Paint.
The Black Knights along with Okoboji Classic Cars will present the Spectacular Cars show Saturday and Sunday Aug. 16-17 at the Okoboji Classic Car Museum on Highway 86 in West Okoboji. Registration will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 with awards at 4 p.m. The third annual Cruise the Lakes will follow on Sunday with registration from 9 a.m. to noon followed by the cruise at noon. Dash plaques and food concessions will be available.
The Black Knights will hold their annual Airport Drags Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Spencer Airport at 1957 330th St. in Spencer west of the Clay County Fairgrounds.
The gates open at 9 a.m. with racing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Races will be 350 feet side-by-side with a light start. Drags are $5 a pass or $20 for all day. Spectators are $5 a person.
All cars will be inspected and safety inspectors have the final say. Vehicles must be registered, licensed and have proof of insurance. Only D.O.T.-approved tires are allowed and there is no class for motorcycles.
