By Staff | Jun 27, 2014

The Emmet County Community Foundation awarded $98,248 to 28 organizations at its annual grant awards luncheon Wednesday at the Estherville VFW.

A total of 34 agencies had applied for $217,267.

Jamar Thompson, affiliate development director with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa of Cedar Falls, the ECCF host foundation, said the foundations began their relationship in 2004. Most of the foundation money comes from gaming dollars.

Thompson said the Endow Iowa Tax Credit which offers a 25 percent state tax credit could be a way for nonprofits to stretch their endowment dollars since that offers a better benefit than by giving directly to 501(c)3 organizations.
