And who says it doesn’t pay to fix up your house in Estherville.

Bill and Nancy Sullivan of 639 10th Ave. found themselves $200 richer in Estherville Bucks when the EXCELlent Property Improvement Contest Committee gave them the first award for fixing up their property – and it’s downright cozy. Committee members deciding the award were chamber executive director Lexie Hash, Jack and Anne Vedder, Dave Seylar, Edith Clarken, Laurel Hash, Marcia Forsyth and Jolene Greving.

The Sullivans put in new windows, painted the siding, put in carpet, added a deck, put in a carport and gravel driveway, replaced gutters and downspouts, replaced plumbing and did landscaping – all work done since they arrived last year. The roof was redone last year just before the Sullivans arrived.

Leona Fisher, Nancy’s aunt, lived in the 1882 vintage home for 60 years.
