Estherville Lincoln Central High School officials held the 2016 Academic Awards Program Tuesday morning at the high school.

The event honors the academic achievements of students over the last two full semesters, which is the 2015-16 school year.

As ELC High School Principal Brad Leonard explained, the graduating Class of 2016 members rarely attend the ceremony as they now have other commitments, but their names were read and they were given a round of applause.

“This is an opportunity to honor those for their work in the classroom,” said Leonard. “Students with a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.49 receive a small bar. Those with an average of 3.5 or higher receive a large bar.”

Leonard then called forward the academic award recipients from the current sophomore through senior classes.

“Congratulations to those for all their hard work,” he concluded at the end of the ceremony. “These students make the choice to be on the honor roll. As a student, you can choose to succeed or choose to fail.”
