The Iowa Lakes Dance Team earned a state title for the third consecutive year at the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Championship Dec. 1-2 in Des Moines.

The Lakers tied for Community College Hip Hop Champions with Iowa Western Community College.

“State is an amazing experience,” said team member Erin Poeppe. “The work put into practice is hard but worth it. The feeling of winning is amazing because you then know your hard work was all worth it.”

More than 250 high school teams and 27 college teams competed at Wells Fargo Arena.

Laker team members were Poeppe, Kiersten Aldous, Hannah Grimm, Feliciti Haack, Ashlyn Reimers and Jaden Rouse.

“I am so proud of the girls and all the hard work they put in to continue our championship run for the third year in a row,” said Jordan Phillips, a Laker Dance Team alumna, who watched the team from the beginning of the season to their final performance. Phillips watched the team’s summer camp and helped critique them prior to the state competition.

The Laker Dance Team is currently recruiting athletes for next year’s team.
