New reserve officer approved to carry weapons

By Staff | Jan 25, 2017

Sheriff Mike Martens addressed the Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning to ask for weapons carry approval for a new reserve officer.

Robert Krause is a reserve deputy and jailer for the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department. Officer Krause has completed training in firearms, taser, and pepper spray.

Sheriff Martens asked the supervisors to approve Krause to carry weapons on the job, including firearm, taser, pepper spray and an ASP?baton.

Per regulations, Sheriff Martens said, officers do not carry batons or guns into the jail, but use non-lethal defense tools when necessary.

The supervisors approved the application for Krause.

In other business, the supervisors discussed drainage statements with County Auditor Amy Sathoff.
