Ringsted to hold special election March 7
RINGSTED – The City of Ringsted will be holding a special election on March 7 to fill a vacancy on the city council.
Steven Paul Starnes resigned Dec. 13, 2016, and the Ringsted council could not reach a consensus on who to appoint to fill the position within the 60-day time limit. A special election was then required.
Two candidates are seeking the vacant at-large position-Darryl Anderson and Sommer Nielsen.
Ringsted residents may vote absentee. Ballots are available at the Emmet County Auditor’s Office beginning immediately. Voting can be done in person at the auditor’s office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
To have a ballot sent to you the following information must be provided in writing to the auditor’s office:
n Voter’s name
n Voter’s registration address
n Voter’s date of birth
n Address to which the ballot should be sent (if different from the voter’s registration address)
n Date and/or name of election for which the voter is requesting a ballot.
n Voter’s signature
The information can be submitted on your own paper or an official absentee ballot request form can be obtained from the auditor’s office or on line at www.emmetcountyia.com Site navigation – auditor’s office, click on absentee ballot. Completed requests must be received in the auditor’s office by March 3, 2017 at 5 p.m. A ballot will be mailed to you and must be returned to the auditor’s office.
Any voter who is physically unable to enter a polling place either to absentee or on Election Day has the right to vote in the voter’s vehicle.
