Estherville Lincoln Central senior Lizzy Herrick will be performing at the All-State Festival this Saturday at the University of Northern Iowa.

She was one of six students who competed at the Individual Events State Speech Competition in Sioux City earlier this month. Lizzy received straight ‘I’ ratings and received nominations from her judges to perform at the festival.

Lizzy performed a Prose short story titled “Band Aid” by Andy Griffith.

In performing the piece for the Estherville Noon Kiwanis this past week, Herrick said she had to cut the original story down to its 6-minute length.

The story also appeared to her sense of humor.

“I just wanted to have fun,” she said.

Estherville coach Jean Herrick said there were performers alone in the prose category at Sioux City. Lizzy is one of 12 people from the northwest corner of Iowa that gets to perform this weekend at the All-State Festival.

“Estherville claims the banner if she wins,” said Jean Herrick.

Overall from the state competition in Sioux City, ELC students received six ‘I’ ratings and two ‘II’ ratings.

Other students who performed at Sioux City were:
