Council signs agreement for apartment building
The Estherville City Council approved a contract for sale, purchasing property at 1742 Central Avenue from Gregory K. Johnson and Assia Asma Johnson for the price of $135,000.
The apartment building at that locaion has been seen as an eyesore on the main thoroughfare through town, and a visual impediment to drivers.
This is connected to a proposed Tax Increment Financing (TIF)?district in the same block. The TIF?district extends from North and South 17th and 18th Streets, inclusive of 17th Street Place, to North 1st Ave. and not including South 2nd Avenue,
City administrator Penny Clayton said,?”The sellers would like to close on the sale as quick as possible.”?The contract for sale expires after Aug. 1, 2017.
Clayton said the funds for demolition would be set at $200,000, but would likely cost less.
Johnson is required to provide notices to quit to any current tenants. The council approved Johnson’s request to remove doors, windows, and fixtures that he had recently installed.
“This is contingent upon approval from the Estherville Area Partnership for Growth,”?Clayton said.
