Fire heavily damaged a house Tuesday morning on the east side of Estherville.

According to fire chief Dick Beaver, firefighters were called out shortly before 7:40 a.m. to 202 N. 17th St.

Upon arrival, they found the house involved in fire and all occupants had exited. However, three dogs that belonged to the family were killed. A woman and her son were checked over by Estherville Ambulance personnel and released.

It took about 20 minutes to knock down the fire, but firefighters were on scene for about three hours. The cause is still under investigation and the home is a total loss.

The Wallingford Fire Department, Estherville Police Department and Estherville Ambulance all assisted on the scene.
