Doubles time

By Staff | Jun 1, 2017

To chants of “ELC, ELC, ELC,” Kendall Evans and Josie Condon received a sendoff from all students as they headed to the 2017 Class 1A State Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.

The Estherville Lincoln Central sophomores will travel to Iowa City where they will play at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The coaches’ meeting will be at 9 a.m., today (Thursday) with play beginning at 10 a.m. in the double-elimination tournament.

Evans and Condon will face Meghann Long and Anna Herrig from Dubuque Wahlert to start the day. The Dubuque Wahlert duo is seeded fourth and the top four doubles’ teams are seeded.

Should the ELC pair win their first match, they would play the winner of Shenandoah and Decorah. A loss would send them up against the loser between Clarke and Newton.

Sixteen doubles teams are in the tournament with the top eight teams receiving medals. A loss in the first round or second round of the championship side of the bracket means that team could finish no better than fifth.

Play continues through Friday.
