A group consisting of employees from Avera Holy Family, Good Samaritan Center, and Pearl Valley came together Wednesday with their collection jars. After a friendly challenge in February, the three facilities agreed to see who could raise the most coin for Relay for Life.
Jars were placed at each facility where staff, residents, patients, tenants or visitors could donate loose change for this cause.
There was one catch. Any paper bills would count against the total amount of change that was in the jar making it easy to commit sabotage!
Good Samaritan Society Estherville was the winner of the Penny Wars with a total of $86.86. Together the group raised $204.12 for Relay for Life!
“We are all winners here today. I don’t think you can talk to anyone who has not, in some way been affected by cancer. What a great and fun way for our health care community to come together to support cancer research, cancer survivors, those still battling this disease and the families of those who have lost that battle.” stated Denise Leal, Marketing Coordinator at Good Samaritan Society Estherville.
The winner of this event receives a “Penny Wars” traveling trophy for 2017.
