The candidates for the Emmet County Fair Queen have been announced. Each participant had to submit a resume and a one page essay on why they should be chosen as queen, along with a poster board with information about themselves to be displayed at the fair. They will also be interviewed by judges.
The Fair Queen and Fair Princess will be crowned at a 7:30 p.m., ceremony on Thursday, July 27, the first night of the 2017 Emmet County Fair (July 27-30). The queen will receive a goody bag with items donated by local business and $200 from Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative. The queen will represent Emmet County at the Iowa State Fair and also in various parades in area communities throughout the next year.
The candidates are Domanique Richardson, Scarlett Rose, Faith Lutat and Tiegan Huntley.

Domanique said, “I like to help others and enjoy being presented with the opportunity to do more for the community and fair. I believe that being the Emmet County Fair Queen would present me with the opportunity to help others at the fair and in the community. I would love to serve as the fair queen and be presented with many more opportunities in the future.”
After high school, Domanique plans to attend Iowa Lakes Community College for further education in agriculture, and go on to Iowa State University for her agribusiness degree.
Faith Lutat is the daughter of Dan and Melissa Lutat. She’s a rising senior at Estherville Lincoln Central High School. Faith is involved in purple cord, Community Christmas Project, the Estherville Saddle Club, the Emmet County Fair Board, and numerous school activities.
Faith said, “I feel it is a privilege for the Emmet County Fair Queen to represent our county to the broader community of Iowans. I feel the key qualities that best describe the attributes of a fair queen are a strong sense of service, community, and the interpersonal skills necessary to be an articulate and positive representative of Emmet County, and I feel I have learned these from my family and other relatives in Emmet County.”
Faith added, “I have learned just standing around is not living life.”
Faith is uncertain of her college plans at this time.
Scarlett is the daughter of David and Dessa Rose. She is a 2017 graduate of Estherville Lincoln Central High School and will attend Faust Cosmetology School in the fall.
Scarlett said, “I feel 4-H has been part of my life as long as I can remember. It has taught me amazing leadership skills, how to problem solve, it has made me the person I am today. I feel it would be an honor to become the fair queen for 2017.”
Scarlett currently holds the title of fair princess. At ELC’s graduation, Scarlett wore a purple cord and presidential pin.
Tiegan Huntley is the daughter of Aaron and Tara Huntley. She is a rising senior at Estherville Lincoln Central High School. Tiegan is involved in 4-H, Clover Kids, 4-H summer camps, earning purple cord hours, Emmet County archery, clay busters, wrestling stats, golf, and FFA.
Tiegan said, “As a senior 4-H member, I know that I am a role model to the younger 4-H members. I have learned to set examples. Being fair queen, I feel as if the skills I have learned and developed have benefited me to be a role model not only to kids in 4-H, but also kids throughout the community. I feel being fair queen will also help me grow more as a young adult along with strengthen the skills I have already developed. I feel I would be a good fair queen because I am caring, responsible, honest, organized, friendly, and outgoing: the characteristics a fair queen should have.”
Tiegan plans to attend Iowa Lakes Community College after graduation, and continue to South Dakota State University in agribusiness.
