Nelson hired as ELC MS Principal
Estherville Lincoln Central selected its new middle school principal, Estherville native Brad Nelson.
The ELC School Board approved Nelson’s hiring Monday evening, He is currently serving as Dean of Students and Activities Director at Humboldt. Prior to that position, he was the middle school principal at Davis County. Before becoming principal, he taught high school Spanish and coached several sports.
Nelson said he enjoyed coming back to ELC to interview for the middle school position.
“For me, it was a great chance to reacquaint myself with some teachers and meet new staff,” Nelson said in a phone interview Tuesday. “I felt an excitement level with both the staff and students. The (ELC) middle school is a great looking building.”
Nelson, a 1999, graduate of ELC, added he see the pride in the ELC schools and plans to “serve it as best as I can.”
He and in wife Allison (Herum) Nelson, have three children-Leah, a kindergartner; Matthew age 3, and Ryan age 1. Allison also grew up in Estherville.
The board also accepted the resignation of current middle school principal Frank Christenson effective at the end of this school year. Christenson has been at ELC the past 13 years, first as high school principal and then as principal of the alternative school and curriculum director.
In other personnel matters, the board approved the hiring of high school English teacher Dylan Masterson and the resignations of high school custodian Lou Nitchals and middle school girls basketball coach Ryan Rezac.
The board tabled the hiring of Ashley Bonner as assistant softball coach, depending on whether the softball season is held.
