Crowd of Crusaders show up for Kate

By Amy H. Peterson - Staff Writer | Sep 13, 2020

Sunday afternoon Kate’s Crusade held a hot dogs in the park party and silent auction to benefit the Van Cleave family. Kate Van Cleave, 10, is set for a bone marrow transplant in a couple of weeks. Kate’s younger brother, Colt, will be the donor. The children’s mother, Ashleigh Van Cleave, will be at the hospital and living in the Ronald McDonald House with Kate for months until she is able to return home. Father Casey Van Cleave will be caring for Colt and the two will visit as much as possible. Kate was diagnosed in 2016 with CML, a form of leukemia, and last month was told a bone marrow transplant is the choice of treatment with the best chance of success. Supporters socially distanced at Spurgin Park, bringing donations and bids for auction items. Photo by Amy H. Peterson
