Times improving for Algona/ELC

FORT DODGE – The Algona High School Girls Swim Team traveled to Fort Dodge for a double dual with Fort Dodge and Carroll with Fort Dodge winning 116-46 and Carroll winning 114-48.

“Despite the score, the girls were very competitive tonight going against two teams who always in the hunt for state titles,” said Algona coach Jim Fisher. “Of the 30 events the girls swam, 15 were better times than before and three were personal bests including Cayla Steinman in the 500 freestyle, Emily Paulson in the 200 individual medley and Leah Williams in the 100 butterfly.”

The best finish for Algona was the second-place finish against Carroll by the 200 medley relay team of Paulson, Williams, Kaitlyn Pollock and Madi Gifford in 2:24.48.

Some season best times included Quimby Ross in the 100 freestyle in 1:13.63, Gifford in the 50 freestyle in 29.87 and the 200 freestyle relay team of Paulson, Emma Ross, Quimby Ross and Gifford in 2:02.95.

Algona travels to Perry on Tuesday for a dual meet and then are home on Sept. 22 for Senior Night.
