Artist-in-Residence Workshops at Estherville Lincoln Central Middle School
This is the second year that Artist-in-Residence opportunities have been made possible through a grant managed by the Estherville Lincoln Central Patrons of the Fine Arts.
Last year award winning Iowa artist, musician and writer Chad Elliott shared his creative talents during two all-day workshops with Estherville Lincoln Central Middle and High School students in November and March.
This year two Sioux Falls, S.D.area artists will be visiting for one week each to work with ELC Middle School students in November and March.
Amanda Boerger is slated to bring her artistic talents to ELC virtually during the week of Nov. 2-6, 2020. Amanda produces paintings, drawings, collages, sculpture, and printmaking work. She will lead the 5th-8th grade students through a process to create collage paintings. Amanda is Californian by birth and South Dakotan by upbringing. She possesses a bachelor’s degree in French Studies and Studio Arts from South Dakota State University as well as two respective certificates in Modern & Contemporary Art History and Printmaking. Having graduated in 2015, Boerger spent eight months in 2016 working as an assistant language instructor in the French Riviera. Since then Boerger has continued to work as an educator and artist within the community of Sioux Falls. At present, she works as the Art Coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club of America.
The week of March 1-5, 2021 will bring Hector Curriel to ELC Middle School. Hector will instruct the Middle School students in the art of caricature drawing using the mediums of graphite, marker and colored pencil. Hector was born in Lima, Peru where he studied architecture, drawing and painting. In 2001 Hector moved to the United States and studied at the Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, MN. In 2005 he moved to Sioux Falls, SD and worked as a political cartoonist for several newspapers around the country. In 2009 he won a Second Place Award in the Charles Schulz Cartoon Art Competition. In 2011 he received a First Place Professional Award from the Art Instruction Schools, and was the Midwest Book Award Winner as a Book Illustrator. Many of Hector’s artworks can be found locally in Sioux Falls, including Sanford Hospital, Avera McKennan Hospital, and at the Sioux Falls Community Foundation.
