100 million early votes cast in U.S.
According to responses to a survey of election officials by Edison Research, more than 100 million Americans voted before polls opened today, Election Day, 2020. These votes represented nearly half, 47% of all registered voters. Twenty-one states plus Washington, DC have already seen over half their voters. Fourteen of the most competitive states, according to polls: Texas, Arizona, Washington State, Montana, Colorado, Nevada, North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota, Florida, Maine, Nebraska, Ohio and even Iowa have already surpassed 2016’s voter turnout through early and absentee voting.
The Estherville News will continue posting updates through Election Day and while results are tallied. Because of high voter turnout and the number of early ballots to count, early results may look very different from the final count.
