Protest mob storms U.S. Capitol

By Amy H. Peterson - Staff Writer | Jan 6, 2021

Thousands of protestors have stormed the U.S. Capitol, breaking in and interrupting the certification of electoral votes in both houses of Congress. Senators Ernst and Grassley and new U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra all issued statements on Twitter condemning the protests, in which a mob began breaking windows in the Statuary room and outside windows of the Capitol building to enter, and fighting with the Secret Service and Capitol Police. Virginia’s governor sent the Virginia National Guard and State Troopers to help restore order.

Here in Iowa, protesters in support of the president also gathered at Iowa’s Capitol to protest the election.
