Avera donates AED to Demoney
Avera Holy Family Foundation and Avera Health Foundation joined together to donate an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to the ELC school system to be located at the Demoney Elementary School. An AED is currently available at the high school and the middle school, therefore, this addition allows for a device to be available at each of the schools in the ELC system. An AED is a medical device designed to analyze the heart rhythm and deliver an electric shock to victims of ventricular fibrillation to restore the heart rhythm to normal. Ventricular fibrillation is the uncoordinated heart rhythm most often responsible for sudden cardiac arrest.AEDs are important be-cause they strengthen the Chain of Survival. They can restore a normal heart rhythm in victims of sudden cardiac arrest. These porta-ble AEDs enable more people to respond to a medical emergency that requires defibrillation.
