Dry weather a concern for area crops
Rain in area forecast for today and Sunday
While the weather thus far in June has been hot and dry, there’s still time for things to turn around for area crops.
Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Paul Kassel said this week that Estherville has had less rain then much of the area, compared to Spencer and Storm Lake.
“Emmet, Dickinson and the north half of Kossuth have been drier on the maps,” he said. “It’s a concern looking forward.”
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 40 percent chance of rain today for Estherville and a 40 to 50 percent chance Saturday into Sunday.
“Real damage happens 2-3 weeks before and after pollination,” Kassel said, which is still a few weeks away.
