ELC defends home field with win over Braves
Cherokee played better in its second meeting of the season with Estherville Lincoln Central on Friday, but the Midgets were still too much, as they defended their home field with an 11-4 victory.
ELC had jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings when the Braves scored two runs in the third and two in the fifth to get within one. ELC responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth with Tatum Dunlavy entering in relief of starter Rylee Yager in the sixth inning to shut the door.
In the first inning, ELC loaded the bases on singles by Jasey Anderson and Yager and a walk to Dunlavy. Saylor Ayers then hit a grounder back to the pitcher, who took the force at home for the first out. However a single by Adrienne Rosfjord scored one run, and Kendyl Ruschy hit a hard ball that slipped past the Braves’ shortstop, as two runs came home.
The second inning saw consecutive singles from Jordyn Moore, Amara Heinrichs and Anderson plus a Cherokee error, as ELC scored two more runs.
