ESTHERVILLE — Mass of Christian burial for Phyllis Woods, 77, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Brian Hughes officiating. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Estherville.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m.
She died Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Phyllis Joan (Bringle) Woods, the daughter of Maurice and Gladys (Heyer) Bringle, was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Minot, N.D.
Phyllis received her education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1947.
On Jan. 14, 1950, Phyllis was united in marriage to William Woods at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. After their marriage, the couple farmed. Phyllis was a “city girl” who learned to love the farm. The couple moved into Estherville in August of 1993. Phyllis and Bill celebrated 52 years of marriage before Bill's death May 21, 2002.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma, and friend. Phyllis taught all of her family to cook, bake, clean, do laundry, and work hard. She had great attention to detail.
Phyllis was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pioneer Club, and Tuesday Coffee Club.
Left to cherish Phyllis' memory are her six daughters and one son, Nancy Woods of Estherville; Debbie and Sandy Woods of Honolulu, Hawaii; Susan Woods of Happy Valley, Ore.; Bill Woods and his wife, Kate, of Estherville; Diane Woods; Judy Delgado and her husband, Rich, all of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, Abby, Michael, and Megan Woods of Estherville and Garrett and Kirby Delgado of Omaha; and her sister, Joyce Satern of Spirit Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Jean; infant brother, Robert Merton; and infant sister, Gloria Jane.
