Peter M.G. Abel
ORLANDO, Fla. — After a year and a half battle with cancer, Peter Abel, 69, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008. Services were held on Friday, Feb. 22 in Orlando, Fla.
Peter was born on May 28, 1938, in Berlin, Germany, the second son of Margarite Ann Abel (Loehr) and Rudolf Philip Abel. Peter, with his mother and father and younger brother, Rudi, immigrated to Estherville in the summer of 1949 where the family made their home.
Peter graduated from Estherville High School in 1957 and attended Estherville Junior College for a year. He then started a three-county-wide newspaper, The Town and Country Pictorial. Drafted in 1961 into the U.S. Army, he served his country in Ft. Ord, Calif. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1963, Peter worked for the San Francisco newspaper The News Call Bulletin.
A few years later Peter went to New York City and was involved in publishing and the new cable T.V. industry. His magazine Cable T.V. World was one of the first T.V. guides in America to list all the new cable channels. He also hosted a cable T.V. talk show not unlike his radio show he had in Northwest Iowa and Southwest Minnesota called the “Peter Abel Show”.
Preceding Peter in death were his parents and older brother, Rolf. Peter is survived by his wife, Elvia Mosquera Abel, and his younger brother, Rudi.
