Eldon Garrelts

ESTHERVILLE — Mass of Christian Burial for Eldon Garrelts, 68, of Estherville will be held 10 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2008 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Brian Hughes, celebrant and Pastor Tedd Rieke, officiating. Interment will be at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery, Wallingford. He died Monday, March 10 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Eldon Garrelts, the son of Alvin and Myrtle (Boecker) Garrelts was born Aug. 28, 1939, at High Lake Township, Iowa.

He received his education in the Estherville schools graduating from Estherville High School in 1957. Eldon then served in the US Navy Aircorp.

Eldon worked in the car business for over 35 years. On Aug. 14, 1986, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Weaver at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. Eldon enjoyed collecting semis, antique tools, walking, camping and especially spending time with his grandchildren, Kayla and Boston. Eldon volunteered countless hours to Estherville Lincoln Central Athletic Programs; Iowa Lakes Community College; Jackson Speedway and the Fairmont Speedway.

He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville Booster Club and Iowa State Blue Ribbon Foundation.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marilyn of Estherville; children, Amber (Weaver) Harris and her husband, Ryan of Gruver; Sally Garrelts of Spirit Lake; Eric Weaver of Sheldon; Vincent Garrelts of Chicago, Ill., grandchildren, Kayla Weaver and Boston Harris; sister, Judy McMahon of Urbandale and sister-in-law, Pat Garrelts of Aurora, Colo.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; son, Matthew; brother,Thomas; brother-in-law, Rene McMahon; and mother and father-in-law, Norman and Annie Egeland.
