Clara M. Caswell

ESTHERVILLE — Funeral services for Clara M. Caswell, 92, of Estherville, will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Rev. Susan Stone officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Ringsted.

She died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

Clara Margrethe (Madsen) Caswell, the daughter of Herman and Ingeborg Madsen, was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Ringsted.

She was raised on a farm northeast of Ringsted and received her education in the Ringsted schools. Then she attended nursing school at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines where she obtained her degree as a registered nurse.

On June 3, 1943, Clara was united in marriage to Donald C. Caswell in Ringsted. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Ringsted for 10 years. Clara was employed as a registered nurse at the Coleman Hospital in Estherville; Fairmont Hospital; and then Holy Family Hospital in Estherville where she worked for many years in Obstetrical Department while raising her family. Clara retired in 1981.

She was an active member of Estherville Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared Clara’s life are her sons, Arnold Caswell and his wife, Marlene, of Okoboji, and David Caswell and his wife, Connie, of Limon, Colo.; son-in-law, Raymond Blinkmann of Vass, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Amelia Petersen of Ringsted and Gena Rasmussen of Lohrville; and brother, Milton Madsen of Spirit Lake.

Preceding Clara in death were her daughter, Donna Blinkmann; grandson, David Blinkmann; her parents; and sisters, Evelyn Kocheiser and Mildred Christensen.
