Samuel Arthur Naas
Samuel Arthur Naas, 92, died March 20, 2008, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista, AR, where he had been a patient for 2 1/2 years. He was born March 17, 1916 in Whittemore, IA to German immigrant parents, Julius and Mathilda Krebs Naas. He attended the German Lutheran parochial school in Whittemore and worked on the family farm before he struck out on his own after winning the Emmet County corn picking contests at the ages of 19 and 20. He was a farmer and home builder in the Estherville area before retiring to the Hot Springs, AR area for several years. He was a county assessor and served on the Estherville school board. He was very active in the Emmanuel Lutheran church and in other churches in the other places he lived.
Sam is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Marjorie Ethel Jones Naas, of Concordia Care Center; son, Ronald (Charlene) Naas, of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter, Nancy (Lee) Yates, of Bella Vista, AR.; sister, Pauline Triplett, of Comfrey, MN; grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Lane, of Ames, Steffen Naas, of Chicago IL, Alan Goecke, of Reston, VA, and Melanie (Brad) Sand, of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Lane, Ian Samuel and Anna Elizabeth Goecke, and Erin and Evan Cochran; and sister-in-law, Hazel Belle Jones Moore, of Estherville.
A memorial service is planned for the Presbyterian church in Estherville May 17.
