Claudia R. Boies

SPIRIT LAKE — Mass of Christian Burial for Claudia R. Boies, 90, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake with Father James Smith as Celebrant. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake.

She died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Claudia R. Cecil, the daughter of Claude and Grace (Shields) Cecil, was born on June 20, 1917, in Logan.

She received her education in the Logan schools. After graduation from high school, Claudia attended Iowa State University and graduated from St. Mary’s College, Omaha, Neb., where she studied education. On Dec. 26, 1940, Claudia was united in marriage to William (Bill) A. Boies in Logan. After their marriage Claudia and Bill moved to Omaha, Neb., while Bill completed dental school at Creighton University and Claudia was employed at Koch Insurance, Omaha, Neb. While Bill served in the armed forces in WWII, Claudia moved to Long Beach, Calif. Upon Bill’s return from service, they moved to Estherville where the couple remained until Bill’s retirement from his dental practice.

Claudia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Spirit Lake. She had been an active member of Altar and Rosary Society; was an avid bridge player; was an active community volunteer; and enjoyed time with family and friends.

Left to cherish Claudia’s memory are her husband, Bill; two daughters: Mickey Ludden and her husband, Mike, of Omaha, Neb., and Patsy Donovan of Spirit Lake; three sons: Bill Boies and his wife, Avis, of California, Mo., John Boies and his wife, Carole, of Lincoln, Neb., and Jim Boies and his wife, Elizabeth, of Portland, Ore.; and grandchildren: Kelly Ludden of Kansas City, Mo., K.C. Ludden and wife, Lindsay, Omaha, Neb., Heather Jensen and husband, Mark, Omaha, Neb., Bryna Eckard and husband, Kevin, Arnolds Park, Erin Donovan, Scottsdale, Ariz., Shauna Donovan, Dallas, Texas, Michael Donovan, Minneapolis, Minn., Adam Boies and wife, Abby, Minneapolis, Minn., Caitlin Boies, Kansas City, Mo., Genevieve Boies, Columbia, Mo., Allison Zach and husband, Eric, Lincoln, Neb., Jordan Boies, Lincoln, Neb., and Kelly and Evan Boies, Portland, Ore. Also surviving are great-grandchildren: Alannah Walker, Arnolds Park; Kate, Drew, and Owen Jensen, Omaha, Neb.; and Michael Ludden, Omaha, Neb. Other survivors include her brother, Dr. J.J. Cecil, and wife, Maxine, of Spirit Lake, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Claudia in death were her parents; son-in-law Pat Donovan; and sister-in-law Marian Boies Biggerstaff.
