ESTHERVILLE — Funeral services for Alvera Helmers, 90, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Glenn S. Bohmer officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died on Sunday, May 25, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
Alvera Lena Agusta (Prust) Helmers, the daughter of Henry and Matilda (Schmidt) Prust, was born April 17, 1918, in Ceylon, Minn.
She received her education in the Martin County, Minn., schools.
She was united in marriage to John Helmers in 1936. They lived in Ringsted for seven years and then moved to Estherville and Alvera was employed at P.G. Gray for many years and later she went to work at Wadco and Weigh-Tronix.
Alvera was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville and she had been very active in both the Dinner Date and Senior Citizen’s Programs in Estherville. Alvera enjoyed dancing and gardening but most important to Alvera was her faith and family.
Left to cherish Alvera’s memory are her two sons, Larry Helmers and his wife, Eleanor of Estherville; Russell Helmers and his wife, Kathy of Haysville, Kan.; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Preceding Alvera in death were a son, Darwood; a daughter, Janice Stade; her great-grandson, Collin Helmers; three sisters, Meta Lyndell, Freda Twedt, Hazel Justice; one brother, August (Gus) Prust and her parents.
