James J. McGregor Jr.
ESTHERVILLE — Funeral services for James J. McGregor Jr., 84, of Estherville, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Gruver with Pastor Harold Heinzig officiating. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at High lake Cemetery of rural Wallingford.
He died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Ruthven Community Care Center.
James J. McGregor Jr., the son of James Henry and Jennie (Christensen) McGregor, was born Sept. 22, 1923, in rural Armstrong.
He received his early education in a rural country school, Swea Township District #8, in Kossuth County where his family farmed. He later attended the Seneca School and finally the Dolliver School.
In 1943, James was united in marriage to Verna Aanonson. After their marriage the couple lived and farmed the McGregor farm near Estherville for 50 years. He also was a PAG salesman.
James was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Gruver. He was a past member of the Halfa School Board.
Left to cherish James’ memory are his wife, Verna, of Estherville; one son, James Lee McGregor, and his wife, Janet, of Estherville; two daughters, Kathleen Graves of Estherville and Kimberly Taylor and her husband, Harry, of Panama City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Michael McGregor and his wife, Cecilia, Mark McGregor, Nat Graves, Will Graves, Kristina Breuer, and Nell Graves; one great-grandchild; and sisters and brother, Lucille DeVary of Dolliver, Forrest McGregor and his wife, Sena, of Buffalo Center, and Margaret Carlson of Armstrong. Preceding James in death were his parents and brothers and sister, Francis McGregor, Glen McGregor, and Grace Gardner.
