Lawrence ‘Larry’ Johnson
ESTHERVILLE — Funeral services will be held for Lawrence ‘Larry’ Johnson, 65, of Estherville 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Mark Gabbard officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91.
He died Friday, June 6, 2008, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Lawrence Luverne Johnson, the son of Luverne and Marie (Grady) Johnson, was born Nov. 29, 1942, in Terril.
Larry received his education in the Terril schools, graduating from Terril High School in 1960. He then worked with Miller Trucking Company in Ruthven. In 1964, Larry entered the United States Army and served as a clerk in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Augsburg, Germany during the Vietnam Era.
On Feb. 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to Patricia Roach. The couple made their home in Estherville and Larry began his employment with Sheltren’s Master Service in 1966. Larry and Pat purchased the business in June of 1971. In September of 2007, he sold the business to his son, Scott. Larry continued to work there until he retired due to health reasons. In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling, sprint car racing, and golfing.
Larry is survived by his wife, Pat, of Estherville; his children, Sheila Borchers and her husband, Craig, of Wallingford, and their children, Benjamin and Blake; Scott Johnson and his wife, Jessica, and their daughter, Katherine, of Estherville; two sisters, Lynn Davis of Middleburg, Fla., and Rosemary Schoning of Fostoria; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Larry in death were his parents.
