ESTHERVILLE – Funeral services for Julia Reuland, 94, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Superior, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Father Brian Hughes as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Friday, July 4, at her home in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, July 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with vigil at 7 p.m..
Julia M. (Theesfeld) Reuland, the daughter of Henry and Barbara (Wagner) Theesfeld, was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Varina.
She was united in marriage to George Reuland on Oct. 24, 1933. Following their marriage they lived in the Terril and Superior area. George farmed until retiring in 1975 and passed away in 1986. George and Julia spent several winters in Florida and Julia moved there permanently in 1992.
Julia took an active role in her many clubs and volunteer organizations. She was elected Committee Woman for the Democratic Club in Iowa, with the highlight being invited to John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Ball. Julia also enjoyed playing bridge and golfing.
Julia is survived by five daughters: Mary Ellen Carter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Nora Jean Charles of Lincoln Hills, Calif.; Patricia Heidecker of Indianapolis, Ind.; Joyce (Don) Thornburg of Estherville; and Barbara (Roscoe) Rhen of Omaha, Neb. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Colleen (Ed) Boucher of Estherville; Viola Kingsley of Kansas City, Mo.; Marie Roberts of Moline, Ill.; and one brother, Duane of Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant sister and brother; and eight brothers.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Patrick’s Church.
