ESTHERVILLE – Funeral services for Joyce Elaine Hasbrook, 80, of Superior will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be at Superior Township Cemetery in Superior.

She died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Joyce Elaine Hasbrook, the daughter of Herbert and Ella (Bergendahl) Von Holdt, was born Nov. 11, 1927, on the family farm near Lake Park. She attended country school and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1945. She then attended Business College in Mankato, Minn.

On Sept. 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Roland (Ron) Hasbrook in Jackson, Minn. They lived their entire married life in Superior. Ron died on May 9, 1992.

Joyce worked various jobs including switchboard operator for the telephone company in Estherville, secretary at the Superior and Spirit Lake Elevators, and a waitress at the Grille in Spirit Lake. She began in the Labeling Department at Berkley’s in 1968 and retired as the Lead Lady of the Labeling Department in 1991. After retirement, she worked as a substitute post mistress at the Superior Post Office and served on the Superior City Council.

Joyce enjoyed camping and golfing. In her later years she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, collecting frogs, spoiling her many dogs and cats, and watching shows about ghosts and history on television, especially ancient Egypt.

She was baptized in the Superior Methodist Church with her husband and daughter and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her daughter, Patty of Superior; brother, Duane Von Holdt and his wife, Bernadine, of Estherville; many nieces and nephews; honorary daughter, Lori Keeler of Estherville; and her dog, Max and cats, Fred, Ethel, Ricky, and Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
