Floyd ‘Jack’ Dykes

CENTERVILLE – Floyd “Jack” Dykes, 74, of Centerville, died July 22, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Jack was born May 9, 1934, the son of Floyd and Dessie (Main) Dykes Sr. in Centerville. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1951. Jack married Loretta Shepard on April 11, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville.

Jacked worked in food industry sales before joining Hy-Vee. He managed the Centerville Hy-Vee for 19 years, retiring September 1998.

Jack enjoyed his family, grandchildren and their activities, fishing, hunting, and spending time on his acreage mowing and being in God’s nature.

Children of all ages in this community were of interest to Jack. He would talk to them about their accomplishments in school, sports and their goals. Jack was very thankful for their friendships.

Jack is survived by his wife, Loretta; three children, Brad (Sheryl) Dykes of Yankton, S.D., Brent (Mary) Dykes of Omaha, Neb., Brenda (Wayne) Jacobson of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Ericka (Erik) Feldick of Waterloo, Lindsey (Matt) Pulverenti of Omaha, Ethan Jacobson of Cedar Rapids, Kaleigh Dykes of Chicago, Ill., Erin Dykes of Omaha, Evan Dykes of Yankton, S.D., and Kramer Dykes of Omaha; two sisters, Frances Dooley of Centerville, and Deyolene Shanahan of Centerville; and a brother, Dick Dykes.

Jack is also survived by his church family. He was very thankful for all they have done for him in his good days as well as when he was sick.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Hilda Walters.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at First Baptist Church in Centerville with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. A private burial will be held and there will be no public viewing.
