ESTHERVILLE – Funeral services for Leslie Dalen, 91, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Stone officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Graettinger with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Leslie Dalen, the son of Ingvald and Janetta (Mallmunger) Dalen, was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Spencer.
Les attended country schools at Lost Island and Graettinger. He then served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines.
On April 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Elaine Peton at the First Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Les farmed and later owned and operated his plumbing business in Estherville. He retired in 1998. Elaine died on Sept. 2, 2000.
Les was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church. For hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, spending time at his cabin on Little Spirit Lake and family gatherings.
Left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Alvin Dalen and his wife, Bonnie, of Graettinger, and Irven Dalen residing at Estherville Good Samaritan Society and his wife, Margaret; sister, Agnes Aanonson, of Rifle, Colo.; brothers and sisters-in-law; three step-sisters and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his one son, Darrel; parents; three brothers, Arnold, Kenneth and Einer; one sister, Clara Rolfson, infant twin sisters and one step-sister.
