Ardis B. Blum

ESTHERVILLE – Funeral services for Ardis B. Blum, 85, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Lynn A. Potter officiating. Casketbearers will be Corey Christiansen, Zach Blum, Garry Culbertson, Lyle Hevern, Dave Spurgin, and Duane Dahna. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Monday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

She died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.

Ardis Blanche (Pedersen) Blum, the daughter of Sam and Theresa (Handler) Pedersen, was born July 13, 1923, in Terril.

She received her education in the Estherville and Terril schools, graduating from Terril High School in 1941.

On March 9, 1947, Ardis was united in marriage to Francis Leland Blum at the United Methodist Church in Terril. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville where they raised their family and Lee and Ardis operated Lee’s Sport Shop until they retired in 1976. Ardis enjoyed spending her free time with family, gardening, sewing, cooking, and converting the old Christian Science Church into their home on South Eighth Street. The couple also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe and Canada after their retirement.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Ardis’ memory are, one son, Alan Blum, and his wife, Linda, of Estherville; one daughter, Annabel Christiansen, and her husband, Fred, of Maple Grove, Minn.; four grandchildren, Zach Blum of Denver, Colo., Corey Christiansen and his wife, Jeanne, of Rogers, Minn., Shana Horner and her husband, Jeremy, of Rochester, Minn., and Carrie Cayford and her husband, Mike, of Lino Lakes, Minn.; five great-grandchildren, Kaden and Hudsen Horner, Cody and Kylie Cayford, and Kate Christiansen; sister, Edith Netsch, and her husband, Miles, of Estherville; and brother, Vernon Pedersen, and his wife, Verdene, of Terril.

Preceding Ardis in death were her husband, Lee, who died Nov. 12, 2002; her parents; one brother; and two sisters.
