William “Bill” Hansen
RINGSTED – Funeral services for William “Bill” Hansen, 90, of Ringsted will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at United Lutheran Church in Ringsted with Pastor Lauri Boysen officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at United Lutheran Church in Ringsted. Interment will be at Ringsted Memorial Cemetery in Ringsted with military graveside rites by Christiansen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post 382 of Ringsted.
He died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
William James Hansen, the son of Andrew and Veronica (Mc Cunniff) Hansen, was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Dyke.
He received his education in the Ringsted schools.
On Feb. 20, 1941, Bill was united in marriage to Evelyn Ingvall in Estherville. From 1942 through 1945 Bill served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from military service, Bill returned to the Ringsted area where the couple farmed and raised their family. Bill was very active in community affairs. In their leisure time he and Evelyn enjoyed dancing.
Bill was an active member of United Lutheran Church in Ringsted where he taught Sunday School and was superintendent. Bill also served as president of the church council. He was a member of VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville. Bill served on the Emmet County Board of Supervisors for four years. He was very active and helped out a lot with ECHO in Estherville and he also served on committees with former Iowa governors and congressmen.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife, Evelyn, of Ringsted; his children, Dennis Hansen and his wife, Diane, of Thornton, Colo., Judy Johnson and her husband, Terry, of Armstrong, Kathy Johnson and her husband, Steven, of Mesa, Ariz., William Hansen of Ringsted, Gary Hansen of Apple Valley, Minn., Steven Hansen of Estherville and Brian Hansen and his wife, Michelle, of Rosemount, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hans; sister, Kathryn and daughter-in-law, Diane Hansen.
