Darlene passed away June 8 at her home.

Darlene was born in Mason City, on Nov. 29, 1927 to Edward and Beulah Ellingson, and graduated from Estherville High School in 1945. She married Clyne Olson of Cokato, Minn., in 1953 and settled in Minneapolis, Minn., where she was employed as an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Together, they had one son, David, in 1957. Following Clyne’s death in 1971, Darlene and David relocated to her hometown of Estherville. Upon David’s graduation from Estherville High School in 1975, Darlene moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to live with her brother, Edward Ellingson, and his wife, Judie.

In 1976, Darlene married Andrew Babinchak of Salt Lake City, Utah. From that point, Darlene made her home in Salt Lake City until her death.

Darlene will be remembered most for her devotion to her family and to her faith. Her strong love for the Lord Jesus Christ, her pride in her son David, and the joy of being surrounded by her brother’s family, nieces and nephews and her cats, gave life meaning for her. There was always a treat in the “treat box” for the children. She will be greatly missed.

Darlene is survived by her son, David Olson, and his wife, Siobhan O’Brien Olson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her brother, Edward and Judie Ellingson of Salt Lake City and their three children, Diane and David Baker, Christa, Ben and Chloe; Christine and David McAtee; and Edward Ellingson III and Colton, all of Salt Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Beulah Ellingson; her brother, Gordon Ellingson; her sister, Vivian Clausen; and husbands Clyne Olson and Andrew Babinchak.
