ESTHERVILLE – Funeral services for Loretta Spoo, 88, of Estherville will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Paul Wiegman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church only on Monday. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.
Martha Loretta Spoo, the daughter of Axel and Pearl (Gemmill) Carlson, was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Martin County, Minnesota.
She received her education in the Estherville schools.
On March 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond Spoo. The family farmed for many years South of Estherville until Raymond’s health failed and then moved into town. Loretta worked at Berkley’s in Spirit Lake for 19 years before retiring. Later she worked at Good Samaritan Center and did summer work at the Inn of Okoboji. Loretta enjoyed spending time with her family along with her favorite pastimes of watching and feeding the birds, flowers, knitting and especially her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Darryll Spoo and Sharen Cassem and her husband, Roger, all of Estherville, Patricia Thomas and her husband, Dennis, of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Connie Wieck and her husband, John, of Montgomery; eight grandchildren, Adam and Jason Wieck, Monica Hoss, Brenda Clark, Tammy Spoo, Dennis Jr. Thomas, Christinia and Joshua Thomas; nine great-grandchildren and also many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents; two brothers, Dale and Russell Carlson; sister, Eunice Gunderson; one unborn child and great-grandson, Michael.
