GRAETTINGER – Funeral services for Thomas Brown, 85, of Graettinger are Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. Burial is in St. Jacob’s Catholic Cemetery, Graettinger.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a 7 p.m. prayer service also held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
He died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Thomas Pattrick Brown was born April 10, 1924, to James Robert and Ellen Josephine (Sherlock) Brown at the Brown homestead east of Graettinger. He attended country school, graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg, then attended Loras College in Dubuque. Tom worked as a fireman on the railroad in California and then a government job where he helped construct an airstrip in Greenland. He then returned to the family farm east of Graettinger.
Tom married June Ingvall in 1964. They purchased a farm south of Graettinger where they farmed until 1977. They then built a new home in Graettinger and Tom worked as an insurance crop adjuster and sold real estate. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and golf. Tom and June wintered in Texas several years, and he enjoyed traveling to Canada, Alaska, Florida and Ireland, where he kissed the Blarney Stone. He also loved to spend time with family and friends.
He is survived by his two stepsons, Michael (Diane) Ingvall of Fostoria and Randy (Eileen) Ingvall of Spirit Lake; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sister, Sarah Tatman of Lake Park and Norine Murphy of Miami Springs, Fla.; sister-in-law, Flo Brown, of Estherville and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife June, October 2008; brothers, Bill and Jim; sisters; Ann Davis, Alice Eagan and Jeannette Green; niece Sheila and nephews Paul and Tony.
