Doris M. Hinderaker
MORRIS, Ill. – Doris M. Hinderaker, 97, of Morris, Ill., passed away Monday, May 4, 2009, in her apartment at Walnut Grove Villa – Assisted Living Care in Morris, She was the wife of the late Rev. Leonard Hinderaker, who preceded her in death in 1992.
The funeral service was held on May 6, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris.
Born April 13, 1912, in Lansford, N.D., she was the daughter of the Rev. J.O. Grindland and Ellen Grindland. She attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn., where she won a medal for an oratorical reading she gave in Norwegian. She taught first through eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse in Leonard and Sheldon, N.D., for four years before her marriage.
Mrs. Hinderaker, with her husband the Rev. Leonard Hinderaker, served Estherville Lutheran Church from 1948-1955. The Hinderakers left in 1955 with lasting friendships and memories of their years in Estherville.
Doris was active in church activities, including playing the piano, teaching Sunday School and adult Bible classes and speaking at banquets and church functions. She loved and served her Lord and Savior all of her life.
Survivors include her three children: Lois (Lowell) Arneson of Bellevue, Wash., Philip (Donna) Hinderaker of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Kathryn (Ronald) Hanouw of Morris, as well as six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
