Dorothy Elaine Buzek

EXETER, Neb. – Services for Dorothy Elaine Buzek, 85, of Exeter, Neb., were held Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Farm and Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Neb. with her her nephew Pastor Brian Kottas and Pastor Karla Sheffy officiating. She died Sept. 19, 2009 in Exeter.

Dorothy Elaine Bures, was born on April 4, 1924, to Thomas Bures and Mary (Fujan)Bures at the farm home, south of Exeter in Liberty Township.

She attended rural district #2 and high school at the Exeter public schools, graduating with the class of 1942. After graduating from high school, she taught in districts #33, #2 and 25 for three years. Her high school interests were drama and speech, music, home-ec, rollerskating and attending school activities.

She married Richard Buzek on Sept. 10, 1946, at her parents’ home near Exeter. They enjoyed attending polka dances and festivals through the years and farmed all their married life until Richard’s retirement. They then moved to Milligan where they lived together until Richard’s death in 1995. Dorothy and Lisa lived in Milligan until 1998 when they moved to Beatrice Dorothy was Lisa’s co-pilot and friend, going to many marathons, Czech events, polka dances all over the Midwest. Lisa met Randy at a marathon and Dorothy was their biggest cheerleader. Dorothy remained in Beatrice until 2008 when she entered the nursing home in Exeter where she passed away.

The had many interests but she especially enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, gardening, sewing, canning and upholstering chairs and spending time with her family.

Dorothy lived a full and active life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by an infant brother, Verland Gene, brother Erin Bures and parents Thomas and Mary Bures, a sister Irene and her beloved husband Richard.

She leaves to mourn her passing, a son, Jan Buzek and wife Heidi; a daughter, Sherrill and husband Tom Davis; a daughter, Lisa and husband Randall Hansen; a sister, Darlene Kroeger and husband Wayne; grandson Travis Davis, numerous nieces and nephews and many in-laws and friends.

Dorothy was very active in the Milligan community and was a member of the Methodist church, the Legion Auxiliary for 50 years, the Extension Club and was a 4-H club leader as well as teaching Sunday school and being a member of the cemetery board.
