Dr. William A. Boies was born in Pisgah on Oct. 19, 1916, to Fred and Leila Griffith Boies

He graduated from Logan High School in 1933 and continued his education at the University of Iowa and Creighton Dental School. On Dec. 26, 1940, Bill married his High School sweetheart, Claudia Cecil, and they began their life together in Omaha, Neb. After graduation from Creighton in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving as a dentist with the 233rd Searchlight Battalion in Guam, the Fiji Islands and the Philippines. At the conclusion of WWII, Bill returned to the United States to begin his dental practice in Estherville. Bill was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus and Rotary. He was active in many civic organizations during his lifetime and was known as a caring and giving man. Skiing, golfing, and boating provided him with pleasure and stories to share with his family in later years. He was curious, witty and a life-long learner. He challenged others to strive for knowledge and to enjoy life and the natural wonders in the world. His sense of humor and his charm will be remembered by all that knew him.
