He died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.

Ronald Jay Schenck, the son of Leonard Blaine and Laura Winifred (Ball) Schenck, was born on a farm March 27, 1920, north of Huntington.

He graduated from Estherville High School. Ron married Grace Hubbard on June 2, 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, serving for 3 1/2 years. Upon returning from the service, he became a partner with his brother, Raymond Schenck, and Glen Olson in the glass-paint shop called Anderson-Schenck. He worked there from 1946 – 1980. Ron and Grace loved to go camping with friends at Wolden Park and at other campgrounds. They had many laughs with their friends. When they retired they moved to Arizona. They lived there for 20 years and made many new friends. They really enjoyed their time in Arizona … no snow to shovel, sunshine most of the time. They moved back home in 2000 to be with friends and family, as Grace had health problems. Grace passed away Oct. 3, 2002, at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Ronald was a member of the Estherville Fire Department for 16 years. He also enjoyed singing in the Estherville Men’s Chorus.

He is survived by his two children, Blaine Schenck and his wife, Mary, of Hillsboro, Ore. and Penny (Schenck) Miller and her husband, Alvin, of Estherville; grandchildren, Lisa (Schenck) Randall, husband, Todd, Kim (Miller) Williams, Kevin Miller and his wife, Shelley and Kurt Miller and his wife, Lisa; great-grandchildren, Connor (CJ) Randall, Brendan Randall, Grabriella Gearke, Gina Gearke and Winter Williams, Kayla Chaffin and Daniel Miller and Mya Miller; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Schenck of Estherville.

Preceding Ronald in death were his wife; parents; two brothers, Floyd and Raymond Schenck; one sister, Flossie Jensen and sister-in-law, Esther Schenck.

He loved life and enjoyed his friends and family. He always had a smile on his face. He lived life to the fullest. Now he has gone home to be with God.
