Donald H. Jensen

GRAETTINGER – Mass of Christian Burial for Donald H. Jensen, 70, of Ringsted will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with Monsignor Michael Sernett as Celebrant. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tueday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger with vigil service at 7 p.m. Interment will be at St. Jacob’s Catholic Church in Graettinger with military graveside rites by Christensen-Bonnicksen American Legin Post 382 of Ringsted.

He died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Donald H. Jensen, the son of Harry K. and Mabel (Tindall) Jensen, was born March 27, 1940, in rural Ringsted.

He received his education in the Ringsted schools, graduating from Ringsted High School in 1957. After graduation from high school, Don attended Iowa State University in Ames and graduated in 1961 with a mechanical engineering degree. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the ROTC Program at Iowa State in 1961. He was stationed at Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, from 1961-1963. Following the death of his father in 1963, Don returned home to farm.

On Nov. 16, 1963, Don was united in marriage to Donna Elbert at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. The couple made their home, raised their family and farmed near Ringsted. Don applied the latest technology in farming and spent many hours in his shop, welding farm projects. He enjoyed his grandsons, Ethan and Clyve, and their many activities whether it be sports or 4-H and farm projects. He also enjoyed visits and time spent with his granddaughter, Bailey. He leaves behind many loving family members and friends.

Don was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger where he served on the Building Committee and was a Lay Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of Christensen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post #362 in Ringsted. He served on the Board of Directors of Ringsted Coop Grain and Products, where he acted as president of the board for eight years. Don also served on the Emmet County Extension Council.

Left to cherish Don’s memory are his wife, Donna, of Ringsted; his children, Steve, his wife, Dee, and their sons, Ethan and Clyve, of Ringsted and Kate and her daughter, Bailey, of Loveland, Colo.; his brothers, Jim Jensen and his wife, Susan, of Cedar Rapids and Charles Jensen of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Jensen of Clive, Linda Creighton of Tucson, Ariz., Diane Jensen of Hilliard, Ohio and Joan White of Rochester, Minn. and many nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.

Preceding Don in death were his parents; an infant brother, David and grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
