Vicki Jo Shepard

KEOSAUQUA-Vicki Jo Shepard, 53, of Keosauqua, died July 5, 2010 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

She was born June 12, 1957 in Ottumwa to Norman and Alice Swaim Shepard.

A graduate of Estherville High School and of Iowa State University, she earned a M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. She had taught for 30 years in Van Buren Community schools where she taught math, was a media specialist and the high school curriculum director.

She was a member of P.E.O., Delta Kappa Gamma, Van Buren County Democratic Party, was presently serving on the Keosauqua City Council, and had served on the Keosauqua Public Library Board. She was a sponsor of the National Honor Society, and dedicated much of her time to the students and their activities in the Van Buren Community School District. Vicki was honored as the 2009 Citizen of the Year in Keosauqua. She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, and was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.

Surviving are her parents, Norman and Alice Shepard of Agency; three sisters, Terry (Jack) Lupei of Sugar Grove, IL, Kristi (Jerry) Fay of Wallingford and Joni (Harry) Nicholson of Ottumwa; a brother, Michael Shepard of Agency.

She was preceded in death by a brother, David Shepard.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Dale Gray officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A Delta Kappa Gamma service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a Vicki Shepard Memorial Scholarship has been established.
