Funeral services for Carol. E. Olson, 95, of Estherville will be held 2 p.m., Friday, July 23 at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Terril. She died Monday, July 19 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Carol E. (Blum) Olson, the daughter of Adolph H. and Eva Jo (Thompson) Blum, was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Terril.

She received her education in the Terril schools, graduating from Terril High School.

On Dec. 24, 1934, she was united in marriage to W. Wayne Olson at the Terril Methodist Church in Terril. The couple farmed in the Milford-Terril area for five years and then moved to Brownsdale, Minn., where they farmed for another five years. The family returned to Arnold’s Park in 1948 and then moved to Dubuque before moving to Estherville in 1964 where her husband became manager for V-C Fertilizer. Wayne passed away in 1982 and her sons, Gail in 1971 and Larry in 2002. Carol became a resident of Friendship Terrace and lived there until September of 2008 when she moved into Good Samaritan Society. Carol was a gentle and giving person who always wanted to care for other people. She loved to oil paint and also enjoyed her gardening and flowers.

Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville and enjoyed being involved in the Rebecca Circle and Quilting Circle. She was also a member of Avera Hospital Auxiliary as well as the Good Samaritan Auxiliary.

Left to cherish Carol’s memory are her two daughters, Linda Smallfield and her husband, Duane of Elkton, S.D.; Janine Haines and her husband, Kim of Alliance, Neb.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Gerry Sternberg and her husband, Hugh of Milford.

Carol has been preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Larry and Gail; daughter-in-law, Barbara; two sisters, Nona Young and Bonnie Thomsen; and two brothers, Cliff and Lee Blum.
