ESTHERVILLE – Memorial services for Mich Juergens, 85, of Estherville will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Memorial visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday prior to services at Henry-Olson.
He died during the night March 14-15 at home in his own bed in Estherville.
Arthur Mitchell Juergens was called Mitch by his friends – and he had many, many friends. He was the oldest child of Arthur Leroy and Violet (Murfield) Juergens, and was born May 10, 1925.
Mitch grew up on a farm near Carroll and graduated from high school there. He attended Graceland College, before attaining a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University.
On Oct. 5, 1952, he was united in marriage to Beverly Joy Hield. Mitchell was a farmer, so the couple lived first on a farm near Glidden. After a few years Mitch went back to college to get a teaching certificate.
He spent most of his professional life farming and teaching, so the family moved from Glidden to Scranton to Webb to Estherville to a farm south of Superior and then back to Estherville.
Mitch was a member of the Community of Christ and a lay minister in that church, serving many years as pastor in several small congregations. For many years – right up to his death – he was chaplain at the Lakes Region Hospital.
Mitchell is survived by his daughter, Connie Sixt, of Munich, Germany, his daughter, Marci Krueger, of Waterloo and his son, Jeff Juergens, of Estherville along with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
His sisters Marilyn and June also survive him.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Joy, and his sister, Virginia.
